The Twisted Logic of the Iranian Government

On 16 September 2022, Jina (Mahsa) Amini, died after being severely beaten by the Iranian government’s “Morality Police” for not wearing her hijab correctly. CCTV footage of Amini stumbling from her wounds and collapsing leaked, and two female reporters wrote about the case. The government claimed she had a heart attack, and her family was pressured into making this claim as well. They refused.
The insult to just the basic intelligence of the Iranian people, the baldfaced lies and denials by the government in face of video evidence proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Women and men have taken to the streets, women removing their hijab, cutting their hair; men knocking the turbans off the clerics; the people of Iran protesting, marching and publicly decrying the country’s totalitarian regime they have been suffering under for 43 years.
The government has responded by firing live rounds into protesting crowds, killing up at to at least 250 people so far, including children, and arresting thousands, men and women alike, including two popular rap stars.
