World Refugee Day reminds us that climate disaster will affect us all

Recently I’ve been doing research about the relationship between climate change disasters and gender-based violence. The most consistent data I found while reading report after report was the extreme levels of violence against women and girls in disaster displacement camps.

As climate change disasters increase, large portions of the world’s populations will be passing through disaster displacement camps over the course of the next few decades

From war-made flooding in Ukraine to cyclones in rural Pakistan to severe droughts in sub-Saharan Africa, to sand storms in Asia, to raging fires in Australia, central Europe and North America, we already know that climate change is already upon us. And as climate change disasters increase, large portions of the world’s populations will be passing through disaster displacement camps over the course of the next few decades.
