Returning to Medium after a long break

As a 50+ solo female entrepreneur working in the social impact space, I’ve faced some real challenges over the past few years in building, maintaining and growing my business: sexism and outright misogyny (as a given), ageism, territorialism and a lot of petty politics all while undergoing menopause and the life events that go along with getting older (graduations, weddings, babies; divorces and funerals of friends and parents) that led to a pretty severe burnout.

But burnout or no, I needed to keep my core business running or, at the very least, limping along until I could gather my resources again and return with a clear head.

In order to accomplish this, I needed to cut out extra activities, like writing on Medium. My articles and essays reduced from weekly to none, although I’ve been pleased to see that older articles continue to be read, hopefully by new readers.

In addition to cutting out extra activities, I also chose to downsize considerably, and even repatriate myself to the United States after 14 years in Europe.
