LA will be OK
It’s the home of resilience
Los Angeles is where I made my home for 11 years. It’s where I went to chase my dreams, and where I faced my worst nightmare. It’s where someone tried to take my life, and where the path of my life was changed forever.
It’s also the place where I met my sensei, and learned the martial art that hs become the thing that I’ve built my life around. It’s where I’ve met dear friends, and where I’ve learned the ins and outs of an industry that, at least for that period time, I was not destined to be a part of.
Los Angeles is the place where I learned resilience.
I moved to LA from New York. I know the Frank Sinatra song says if you can make it there (New York), you can make it anywhere, but he clearly had not spent enough time trying to make it in LA. It’s a tough town.
There have been countless interviews and scandalous stories over the years of the sexual harassment, the racism, the sexism, and the ageism that people in the film industry face. Demi Moore recently accepted her first award after 45 years in the industry, and shared how a producer told her she would never be anything more than a popcorn actress. Keanu Reeves recounts a story with Anthony Quinn, who at the time was in his 80s, and was still hustling for his next job.
