I do believe there are some women who just want power, but I'm always going to defer to Audre Lorde on this point, since she says it so incredibly clearly: destroying patriarchal structures "is only threatening to those women who still define the master's house as their only source of support."* I think so many people just cannot imagine anything else, so they fight to preserve it because it's the only home they know. That doesn't mean it's a good or healthy or even safe home for literally anyone under it's roof, but so many believe it's all we have. That said, there are also people who just want power and will do anything to get it--I'm not forgetting about them!
