Over the past week, the world watched in horror as the Taliban moved into Kabul, the sitting president fled, and the extremist group took control of the country. Governments evacuated their embassies, individuals launched crowdfunding campaigns to get friends and families out, and presidents and prime ministers have been urged to grant visa status, passports and shelter for the thousands of Afghan refugees seeking safe harbor.

It is no secret to anyone at all that the Taliban’s advance and takeover of the country was thanks to the US pulling its troops out, something President Trump swore to achieve thanks to a deal he made with the Taliban, but that was under President Biden’s watch to fully execute. In the days following the fall of Kabul, reports have surfaced that Trump had struck a deal with the Taliban, agreeing to withdraw troops and surrender arms. In President Biden’s official press conference regarding the troop draw-drawn, he claimed that there was very little risk of the Taliban overrunning the country and taking control.
